Name: Alex (former last name: Mulligan)
Age: 20 years old
Powers:
Like all other Therians, Alex gained the ability to shift to and from variations of the form of an Iberian Lynx. He has three distinct forms: his human one, one that he loathes from his time in the asylum; his “halfway” and preferred form, at which he resembles an anthropomorphic lynx and which he reverts to under stress; and his lynx form, at which he resembles a normal Iberian Lynx. Like other therians, Alex has one red eye and a normal eye (brown, in his case).
Personality:
History:
Alex was born into a middle class family in Cardiff twenty years ago. Although on the surface the family appeared to be normal, it was anything but. His father was abusive towards his mother, both physically and psychologically. His mother had never been a strong willed person either, so much of her time was spent injured and in a deep depression. Since Alex was never truly raised, his early childhood was one marked by neglect, isolation and confusion.
It was only when Alex hit 6 that his parents began to pay attention. Alex began to talk about ‘people who weren’t there’, and began to act irrationally in many situations. Seeing this as an excuse to get rid of the child, his father had Alex placed in a mental institution and cut off contact with him. Suffering from paranoid schizophrenia and anxiety, Alex grew into a bitter and sometimes violent pre-teen. It was at this point that the institution’s staff placed him in solitary confinement and began a rigorous drug campaign to get rid of ‘the voices’.
It seemed like the medication was beginning to work. By the time Alex had hit 16, his violent tendencies had grown small and were almost non-existent. The voices had retreated for the most part, and he was beginning to re-integrate with the other patients at the institution.
But less than six months later, The Change took over Alex’s life.
It was a rather odd case. Alex hadn’t been born with a red eye (like the majority of Therians), and the age range for The Change had already been passed. Nonetheless, Alex underwent The Change and irreversibly killed any chances he had of ever becoming a relatively normal person.
His Change was particularly violent: he killed two people and needed to be tranquilized for them to safely isolate him. After that first terrifying day, the voices came back in massive numbers and sent Alex spiralling out of control. Marked with the red eye of the Therians and fighting a particularly terrible bout of schizophrenia, the mental institution sent Alex back to his family claiming “it could no longer meet his needs.”
It only took two months before Alex had run away from home. He and his father got into far too many violent confrontations, and in their last argument Alex scarred his father with a deep claw wound to the face. After that, Alex left and never looked back.
